PASIG CITY, PHILIPPINES- Friday night’s attacks in Paris once again reminded us of the reality of evil. It is a showcase of what can happen when hate is seeded in people’s hearts. Hate, anger, disdain, intolerance, and rage, when nurtured, can lead to deadly expressions.
In these instances, which we hope would be as rare as they come, it’s important to be mindful of the words that we speak and the messages we post in our social media profiles. Evil can manifest in its simplest forms, and well-intentioned venting of disgust from this horrific attack can be misguided and laced with hate toward others.
It’s important to acknowledge that the most potent vindication for hate is love, and prayer is one of the greatest expressions of love for others. We can also boldly declare things – knowing that our words set forth direction. With our speech, we can directly address this tragedy: Blessing a city and nation in distress with the power of our words.
Pray for the survivors
Hundreds have already died, an estimated 127 according to reports. And there are survivors who are scarred physically and psychologically from the Paris attacks. Let’s pray for healing for those critically injured, asking God to heal them. Let’s pray for witnesses and other survivors who will always have this tragic event in their memory. Let’s be in faith, together, that they will overcome their fear and will be strengthened in their resolve to live their lives.
Pray for the victims’ families
Every single person who has been murdered by the terrorists is connected to someone. They are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends, or colleague to someone who is now grieving with their lost. Let’s pray that they will be comforted and that peace will reign in their hearts. Let’s also pray that they will have the resources and provision they need to be able to honor their loved ones through a proper burial or cremation ceremony.
Pray for wisdom and protection to be upon President Francois Hollande as he leads a nation under attack
President Francois Hollande is a world leader determined to squelch terrorism in his country and confront head-on a horrible national crisis. Let’s pray for wisdom to be upon him as he leads a nation under attack by extremists determined to destroy the beautiful nation of France, as well as protection as he confronts his nation’s enemies.
Declare wisdom, strength, comfort, and protection on all the workers involve in ensuring Paris’s security and medical workers treating survivors
Let me also add that we should include the politicians, policymakers, intelligence officials, and all personnel who are heavily involved in ensuring that this will never happen again. Let’s pray that they will be comforted and strengthened to do their task and that they will not be intimidated by fear.
Speak peace to Paris, speak peace to the nation of France, and speak peace to the French people wherever we are
You can simply say, “I declare peace to reign in Paris and the whole nation of France,” and speak it with boldness and sincerity. Do not underestimate what the power of your words can do because it would reverberate in the world and make a difference! Let us speak peace to this nation who have been experiencing these deadly tragedies and stand with them as they journey to triumph over evil!
Post thoughts that promote life and peace on social media. Exalt heroism and courage instead of glorifying hate and evil
Hours after the attack, the people of Paris began using the hashtag #PorteOuverte, which means “open door” in English, to anyone in the city who may need a temporary shelter. Instead of joining the blame-game, giving unnecessary space to conspiracy theorists, or enabling opportunistic entities to use this as a tool to promote their end – let’s focus on exalting the heroism and courage of people: The bartender who risked his life to save his customers, the police officers who responded to the scene, and the soldiers who are now on guard protecting the city. What the terrorists want is for us to be divided, disconnected, and further in chaos.
Let’s prove them wrong by standing shoulder-to-shoulder, united that we will serve one another and protect each other.
